Responsible for managing day to day activities involving track inspection and track maintenance / repair teams to ensure safe, efficient rail quality for all divisions within Railroad Company.
Interact with internal and external customers in support of achieving company goals.
Responsibilities include:
o Responsible for directing track inspections and maintenance forces to ensure safe train operations.
o Oversees track forces to ensure quality maintenance and safe work performance.
o Undertakes special projects as assigned.
o Ensures track meets all inspections requirements for RJC and FRA.
o Ensures safe and efficient operation within each area assigned.
o Communicates and coordinates with other railroads when necessary to facilitate efficient work as needed for various operations.
o Ensures the safety of employees performing inspections / maintenance related activities on RJ Corman Railroads.
o Maintains close communication with all operating divisions to discuss and address daily issues and/or concerns as necessary.
o Maintains appropriate staffing levels at all locations to ensure all divisions are capable of providing necessary service to all customers.
o Maintains professional relationship with FRA personnel and ensures that employees adhere to all FRA related rules and regulations.
o Performs other duties as assigned by management.
Specialized or Technical Knowledge, or Education and
Experience:
o Prefer related work experience of at least 3-5 years involving track inspection, repair, and maintenance.
o Strong understanding of FRA rules and regulations required.
o Must have good communication skills and good employee relations.
o Should be multi-task oriented and possess good analytical skills.
o Computer application skills required, and previous supervisory type experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
o Able to perform physical strenuous work o Able to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch o Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50lbs o Requires occasional use of 30lb claw bar to remove spikes, requiring application of 50lbs of force o Requires occasional use of 10lb sledge hammer to drive spikes, requiring application of 75lbs of force o Able to walk, climb, and maintain balance on equipment, stairs, ladders, uneven terrain, rails and ballast in a safe manner o Able to navigate into confined spaces if necessary Environmental Conditions:
Performs some duties in job-site environments, in and around moving locomotives, railcars, vehicles and equipment.
Frequent exposure to weather elements; and appropriate PPE required for job site visits.
Major or Unusual Problems:
24/7 availability required.
Maintenance of teamwork within track inspection and maintenance / repair operations and with company and corporate groups.
Achieving timely and expedited service to RJC divisions, often in situations beyond the control of the switching or shortline operation.
Job Dimensions:
Supervises railroad track inspection and repair / maintenance operations within a company of approximately $25-30MM revenue and 20
employees.
